Get the most our of Intune with the right setup

Sometimes, real added value hides in the details. And that's certainly the case with Microsoft Intune. To optimize your team's efficiency and your users' experience, there are a number of out-of-the-box settings that could use a more ideal configuration. But what exactly do you need to adjust to get the most out of Intune?

With a few minor tweaks, you can often get much further. We'll share some practical tips to help you avoid the biggest challenges.

1. Use enrollment restrictions for personal devices

You've probably experienced this before: one of your colleagues installs Outlook on a personal device. And before you know it, that device is registered in Intune. You're certainly not alone. We see this in almost 90% of new environments. But how can you prevent those private devices from ending up in Intune?

Fortunately, the solution is relatively simple: by using enrollment restrictions in your Intune portal, you can create a strict separation between corporate and personal devices. This prevents you from accidentally managing someone else's hardware.

2. Switch to the new Windows Autopilot

With Windows Autopilot, you can quickly and consistently prepare devices for immediate use. At least, that's the idea. In practice, the classic configuration is scattered across virtually the entire Intune portal, requiring you to adjust settings everywhere. Quite tedious.

Thankfully, there's an easier way. Microsoft has released an improved version: the new Windows Autopilot Device Preparation, also known as Autopilot v2, makes the entire process a lot simpler. Everything's now centralized in one logical wizard. You can select applications and scripts directly in your deployment profile and follow it live. This saves you lots of time and significantly reduces the risk of errors.

3. Improve your data visibility with Log Analytics

Looking for reports in Intune? You're certainly not alone, we get that question all the time. Most companies have the right data stored somewhere, but it's scattered across the entire portal, which makes it really time-consuming to gather valuable insights.

The key to solving this is to connect your Intune to an Azure Log Analytics workspace. All the data is directly captured in a central location, where you can create your own dashboards. For instance: checking if a policy is assigned correctly. With a simple dashboard in Log Analytics, you can get immediate insight into this and much more.
