Hannah’s growth story: from student to Web Developer

When her brother Geoffrey – one of our Project Managers – helped her score a student job with our Cloud Agents, Hannah Young had no idea that this would be the beginning of her professional career, landing her first permanent role as a Web Developer. What started with weekly one-on-ones with her team lead, a buddy to support her, and a challenging internship on micro-frontends, grew into a story of boldness, perseverance, and collaboration.

"The first introduction immediately felt right"

Thanks to her brother, Hannah Young landed a position with our Cloud Agents, her first experience in a corporate environment. Naturally, this was very exciting for her. “When you start somewhere new, you never know in advance what your workday will look like or how much guidance you will get. But I quickly noticed that things are very different here at Arxus compared to most companies: you get lots of help, a buddy who's always there for you, and a team that's always ready to help.”

That feeling of support made it a natural choice for Hannah to apply for an internship with us as a front-end developer. “I was able to choose which project I wanted to work on and decided to go for micro-frontends: something I was familiar with from my studies, but could finally put into practice in a professional environment.” Every week, she made a list of questions that she discussed one-on-one with Hendrik, her team lead. “Everything was open for negotiation, not only the technical stuff.”

A challenging internship with opportunities for growth

“My internship was difficult. And that's exactly why I'm glad I did it. I learned to work with new technologies that I hadn't mastered yet, but thanks to my basic knowledge from school and the support from my colleagues, I was able to quickly get the hang of it”, Hannah says proudly.

Besides improving her technical skills, she also learned to give presentations. “I was really nervous about explaining my work to everyone – it wasn’t mandatory at my school – but I did it anyway.” She practiced with colleagues, got specific feedback, and presented the results of her internship to the whole team. “As the only woman in a technical team, it was quite stressful, but I received a lot of positive reactions from everyone!”

The logical next step: a full-time position

At the end of her successful internship, we wanted to keep Hannah on our team. “When I was offered the position of junior Web Developer, I immediately and enthusiastically said yes,” Hannah smiles. And on her first official day, there was no sign of stress: “I knew the team, understood how well we worked together, and was able to hit the ground running.” At first, she had to read through some new documentation. But after that, she was able to dive right in: figuring things out for herself, working on real features, and building confidence. “My very first assignment at Arxus took me a whole week to complete. Now it would finish it in just two days. And that says everything about how much I've grown.”

“The best thing about my job? Seeing the results. As a Web Developer, I get to watch my work come to life visually and immediately notice the impact of the final product. The technologies are dynamic, you never stop learning, and you adapt quickly – specially in a collaborative environment. The fundamentals that I learned during my internship are now an integral part of my new role.”

“As a student, you don't really know what to expect in terms of mentoring. At Arxus, I felt supported from day one. Everyone was ready to answer questions. People even encouraged me to ask as many as I could! It feels like being part of a big family. There's a lot of laughter, everyone is approachable, and there's always room to ask questions or just have a chat.”

A tight deadline was approaching. And to meet it, the whole team decided to work full-time at the office for two weeks. As a way to relax, we played a game together: two truths and a lie. The wall was covered with sticky notes, we laughed a lot, and got to know each other much better. That was a real highlight for me. Moments like that strengthen team dynamics and make working together even more fun.”

Thinking about an internship? Just go for it!

“Looking for a company where you can learn a lot, get all the necessary guidance, and feel at home right away? Then Arxus is the perfect choice. You'll get lots of trust, room to grow, and a team that's always there for you.”
