For Brent De Mol, it all started with an opportunity and the courage to take it. Through his network, he got in touch with SecWise, the security branch of our ecosystem, and decided to give it a shot in a field that had already sparked his interest: cybersecurity and Microsoft technology.

“From day one, I was welcomed with open arms,” Brent says. “Everyone was willing to help, and no question was too much.” But Brent didn’t just go with the flow. He set the bar high for himself from the very start. During his internship, he combined his day-to-day analyst tasks with a technical project focused on an Infrastructure-as-Code solution for Microsoft Sentinel. At the same time, he actively deepened his knowledge through Microsoft Learn and other cyber security topics, strengthening areas that weren’t fully covered in his studies.

And that level of engagement didn’t go unnoticed.

An internship is about real growth

Thanks to the guidance and trust he received, Brent was able to continuously challenge himself and take on more responsibility. “You’re not just thrown in at the deep end here,” he explains. “You get the support you need to grow and improve.”

That combination − being given opportunities and actively making the most of them − created a strong connection early on. After just one month, Brent knew for sure: this is where I want to stay. Today, he is part of the team as a Cyber Security Analyst, working on incident handling, reporting, and supporting customers. His responsibilities have grown alongside his dedication and continue to open up new opportunities to learn every day.

What makes this internship stand out for him?

The culture. “It’s a very approachable and friendly environment where everyone knows each other and you’re truly involved.” He also values the strong focus on growth. Asking questions is encouraged, just like exploring new things. In the future, Brent sees himself taking on a similar role in supporting new interns and guiding them the way he was guided.

For students or starters, he has one clear piece of advice: just start and keep learning. The opportunities are there, you just have to take them.
